Estonian belongs to the Finnic branch of the Uralic languages, along with Finnish, Karelian, and other nearby languages. The Uralic languages do not belong to the Indo-European languages. Estonian is distantly related to Hungarian. Estonian has been influenced by Swedish, German (initially Middle Low German, later also standard German), and Russian, though it is not related to them genetically.
Like Finnish and Hungarian, Estonian is a somewhat agglutinative language, but unlike them, it has lost the vowel harmony of the hypothetical Proto-Uralic language, although in older texts the vowel harmony can still be recognized.
Oklahoma
Located in the South Central zone of the United States, Oklahoma shares its borders with Texas to the south and west, Kansas to the north, Missouri to the northeast, Arkansas to the east, New Mexico to the west, and Colorado to the northwest. Its name originates from the Choctaw terms okla, meaning 'people', and humma, signifying 'red'. The state's unofficial nickname, "The Sooner State", nods to the early settlers who claimed their parcels of land prior to the official opening of the western Oklahoma Territory or before the enactment of the Indian Appropriations Act in 1889. This act led to an influx of European-American settlers in the eastern Indian Territory. Oklahoma's diverse landscape encompasses ancient mountain ranges, prairies, mesas, and eastern forests. Most of the state is part of the Great Plains, Cross Timbers, and the U.S. Interior Highlands, all of which are known for their extreme weather conditions. Oklahoma represents a unique blend of three major American cultural regions and has a significant historical relevance as a designated territory for Native Americans displaced from regions east of the Mississippi River, a route for cattle drives originating in Texas and nearby areas, and a destination for Southern settlers. Today, twenty-five Native American languages continue to be spoken in Oklahoma.
