There are seven verb paradigms or speech levels in Korean, and each level has its own unique set of verb endings which are used to indicate the level of formality of a situation. Unlike honorifics—which are used to show respect towards the referent (whom you are talking about) —speech levels are used to show respect towards a speaker's or writer's audience (whom you are talking to). The names of the seven levels are derived from the non-honorific imperative form of the verb 하다 (hada, "do") in each level, plus the suffix 체 ("che", hanja: 體), which means "style".
The highest six levels are generally grouped together as jondaenmal (존댓말), while the lowest level (haeche, 해체) is called banmal (반말) in Korean.
Shanghai
Shanghai is one of the four municipalities directly administered by the People's Republic of China. Situated on the southern estuary of the Yangtze River, the city is intersected by the Huangpu River. As a major global city, Shanghai serves as the headquarters of the New Development Bank, an institution established by the BRICS countries. With more than 75 foreign representative offices, second only to Beijing, Shanghai regularly hosts a wide range of national and international events such as Shanghai Fashion Week, the Chinese Grand Prix, and ChinaJoy.
As the top revenue-generating tourist destination globally, Shanghai boasts the seventh highest number of five-star hotels worldwide and is home to the third tallest building in the world, the Shanghai Tower. In 2018, Shanghai had the honor of hosting the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE), the world's first national-level expo with a focus on imports. Furthermore, in 2019, Shanghai became a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.
